IN THEIR 1990s heyday, they became known as the original supermodels.
Last night Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Carla Bruni and Cindy Crawford graced the catwalk again for the Versace show at Milan Fashion Week.
The supermodels, together worth €225million and facing their 50s, seem to have lost none of their sparkle as they wore shimmering designer gowns. Versace is said to have invented the supermodel, plucking a select few from the runway ranks and elevating them to celebrity status. His five stars are:
1. CARLA BRUNI
49, dated rock stars Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger and is now married to former French president Nicolas Sarkozy. Worth: €12million.
2. CLAUDIA SCHIFFER
47, holds the record for the most magazine covers – boasting a repertoire of over 1,000. In her early days she was compared to Brigitte Bardot. Worth: €84million.
3. NAOMI CAMPBELL
47, got her big break as a 15-year-old living in London and was the first British black model to appear on the cover of UK Vogue. Worth: €40million.
4. CINDY CRAWFORD
50, was named in 1995 as the highest-paid model on the planet. Her daughter Kaia Gerber, 16, has followed in her footsteps on to the catwalk. Worth: €84million.
5. HELENA CHRISTENSEN
48, has followed her glittering fashion career by becoming an accomplished photographer whose work has appeared in Marie Claire and Elle. Worth: €7million.
