We were supposed to be in France but I’m stuck at home

-

THIS weekend was meant to be spent in warm and sunny Carcassonne in the south of France for Marianne Teehan, who is celebrating her wedding anniversary.

But the chaos caused by Ryanair and the widespread cancellations has put a stop to her trip.

The Dubliner was due to jet to France with her husband this morning for three nights to mark their 16th anniversary.

However, they were forced to ditch their plans after getting notice that their flight had been cancelled as a result of Ryanair’s decision to cancel thousands of flights.

She said yesterday: ‘We had booked this because we had been to Carcassonne in January and we said we’d love to go back in September.

‘I had booked a hotel on Booking.com. Luckily enough when I am booking a hotel I always go for free cancellation just in case, and nothing has ever happened.

‘We had literally just checked in and then we got an email saying our flights are cancelled. I had my bag packed and everything, a week in advance. The one time I am organised and I just put the kibosh on it.’

She also said: ‘We were looking forward to it.

‘I know this is all First World problems, as they say, and we were looking forward to it but I swear I was spitting feathers last night. I really was,’ she explained. ‘I had the dog booked into kennels, a friend of mine is a taxi driver and I had organised him to bring us in the taxi.

‘So it was all those kind of little things, which is a pain really.

‘I was lucky enough to be able to go on to Booking.com and cancel the hotel without any loss of money.’

However, she added: ‘I feel sorry for people with weddings planned and family holidays.

‘We are lucky that we are at home and not abroad trying to get home or stuck somewhere.

‘Lucky enough then I applied for the refund and was told it will be back on my credit card in five to seven days.’
