Fundraising campaign for family hit by arson attack

- By Alison O’Reilly

NEIGHBOURS are rallying around the family injured in an arson attack on their home last week as the mother remains in critical condition.

Senior security sources say petrol was poured through the letterbox of the targeted home in Inchicore, Dublin, on the first floor at Tyrone Place flats in the south of the city.

It’s understood Maggie Green, 31, and her children were targeted in a case of mistaken identity.

The young mother and her children, John, 13, eight-year-old Francie and seven-year-old Savannah were all injured in the blaze.

It’s understood the children are recovering well; however their mother remains in a critical condition in St James’s Hospital.

Neighbours and friends have set up a GoFundMe page, called Wings Of Hope, in support of the family affected by the fire. The page was set up on Wednesday – two days after the blaze – by the Core Youth Service Family Resource Centre.

The group’s target is €10,000 and has so far raised €895 for the family, while friends and neighbours have been collecting clothes and toys for the children after everything the family owned was burned.

A friend said: ‘The children are doing well but Maggie is not okay. She is still critical and the whole community is shocked.

‘It was a case of mistaken identity and look what happens – a whole family was nearly wiped out. People just can’t believe it; we are all trying to do what we can for the kids and are praying Maggie will be okay’.

The fire broke out at around 11pm on Monday night as neighbours tried to rescue Ms Green and her children from the burning flat.

The eldest boy, John, was rushed to Crumlin Hospital having escaped through a window with the assistance of a neighbour. Francie and Savannah were treated for burns.

Sources stressed that Ms Green is in no way involved in criminality.
