Illusionist gets death threats, but it’s not the end of the world...

-

HAVING the same name as the man who predicted the world would end last Saturday has caused no end of problems for illusionist David Meade. Mr Meade, pictured, from Co. Down, has received death threats after he was confused with American conspiracy theorist David Meade, who claimed that Planet Nibiru would collide with Earth on September 23. He has been incorrectly linked to the claim on social media with photos of him even in news stories connecting him to the off-the-wall prediction. In a tweet on Saturday, Mr Meade said: ‘Still getting hundreds of threatening messages to my site every day.’ Mr Meade told BBC: ‘About six or seven months ago we started getting the odd tweet here and there and I thought it was hilarious. ‘I think part of the confusion, first of all, is that it is a pretty unusual way to spell Meade, with an ‘e’. ‘But then also, when people were arriving on my site they were seeing things like “mentalist”, “mind reader”. That probably sounds like the sort of person that would predict the end of the world.’ The married father-of-two, who now lives in Banbridge, said yesterday that he had received five death threats but is not taking them seriously. He added: ‘My main concern is that no-one seems bothered to correct this. A Fox News anchor linked directly to my Twitter feed, directly to my website, and, to date, has refused to apologise for it.’ Mr Meade, pictured, is so sure the world will not end that he is offering ‘1,000%’ refunds on tickets for his new tour if he is proved wrong.
