FOXES KEANE ON ROY

- By PHILIP QUINN

ROY Keane has emerged as a shock contender for the Leicester City managerial vacancy. The Republic of Ireland number two has been backed to replace Craig Shakespeare who parted company with the 2015/16 Premier League champions on Tuesday. Sportsmail understands Keane is not the club’s first choice but the decision of Carlo Ancelotti to take the rest of the season off after his sacking from Bayern Munich has removed the favourite from the running. Sean Dyche, the Burnley manager, yesterday distanced himself from the post but Chris Coleman, whose future as Wales manager is uncertain, remains in the reckoning. Keane, 46, was previously linked with the job in 2011 after Sven Goran Erikkson left the club, then in the Championship. Keane (right) has never hidden his desire to return to the management front-line since his exit from Ipswich Town in January 2011. He is currently under contract to the FAI for the remainder of the World Cup campaign, which could run for four weeks or until the end of June. A new deal from the FAI for Keane to continue as righthand man to Martin O’Neill for the UEFA Nations League and Euro 2020 qualifiers is on the table but nothing has been signed. Meanwhile, a limited number of premium level tickets for the return leg of the World Cup play-off between Ireland and Denmark in Dublin next month will go on sale today. The FAI are still negotiating with the Danish FA for extra tickets for the first leg in Copenhagen on November 11.
