Friends forever... Apple reunites Jen and Reese

-

APPLE has picked up Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston’s TV drama for two seasons to stream in 2018.

The as-yet-untitled series will centre on a morning television show based in Manhattan. As well as being Jennifer’s first regular smallscreen gig since Friends, the 20-episode drama will also see the two stars reunite for the first time since they portrayed sisters in the hugely popular NBC sitcom in 2000.

Reese, 41, posted a snap with Jennifer, 48, left, to her 17million Instagram followers, alongside the caption: ‘So excited to be back and reunited with this one-of-a-kind lady! Can’t wait for y’all to see what we have in store. #FunTimesToCome.’

The Oscar-winning actress previously played Jill, the younger sister of Jennifer’s Friends alter ego Rachel Green for two episodes, the more recent of which was back in 2000.

The pair will executive-produce and star in the show loosely based on Brian Stelter’s 2013 book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. The drama will take an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, while exploring the unique challenges faced by those working in the industry. Stelter, 32, triumphantly tweeted on Wednesday: ‘I’ve been waiting for months to share this news: I’m a consultant on the project!’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jay Carson (House of Cards) has signed on as producer, writer, and showrunner. Apple is believed to be investing around €850million in acquiring and producing original TV shows over the next year in a bid to make its mark in the growing online streaming market, currently dominated by Netflix and Showtime.
