Frampton looks for another title shot
CARL FRAMPTON says that he is ready for another world title shot after shaking off the cobwebs from a 10-month ring absence by defeating Mexico’s Horacio Garcia at Belfast’s SSE Odyssey Arena on Saturday. While it wasn’t the most polished performance from ‘the Jackal’, he still did enough to see off the Mexican on a unanimous points decision. Frampton (below) still hopes for a third fight with Leo Santa Cruz, who became the first fighter to beat him in the paid ranks in January and there is talk of a rematch taking place in Winsdor Park next summer. He would also like to challenge the Welsh IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby. ‘If a world title fight comes next, I am ready for it,’ Frampton said. ‘Who knows what’s going to happen? A few lads like Lee Selby and Josh Warrington may be tied up, but I’m ready for whenever a title fight comes.’ Meanwhile, Jamie Conlan went down bravely in his attempt to claim the IBF super-flyweight title off Jerwin Ancajas. The reigning champion was simply too good for the Belfast native, who suffered his first defeat in his 20th professional bout. Two-time Olympic medallist Paddy Barnes continued his rise through the professional ranks by winning the vacant WBO inter-continential flyweight title with a sixthround stoppage win over Nicaragua’s Eliecer Quezada while Dubliner JonJo Caroll won the vacant IBF intercontinental superfeatherweight title when he stopped Humberto de Santiago in the third round of their bout.
