WINTER WARDROB Wishlist
Brrrr. It’s getting cold out there, so it’s time to layer up in cosy pieces you love. Grace Cahill shares her style inspiration...
THE Irish have a long history of dressing in a way that’s totally unsuitable for the weather.
We should have learned by this stage to ignore the forecast and dress for four seasons in one day. This week, though, has a definite feel of winter, with gale-force winds and driving rain.
So I’m making a list and checking it twice. A checklist, that is, of timeless, clever buys that are easy and versatile to wear. I’m talking about the kind of clothes you don’t need to think twice about on a freezing cold morning.
Take, for example, a trusty knit you can layer — practical and dependable. It lends itself easily to laid-back, off-duty looks, like T-shirts teamed with high-waist
jeans, or for a more glamourous look, slung over a dress and paired with heels. A trophy coat — one that’s both a show-stopper and timeless — is worth investing in to throw over your shoulders on these darker days.
This piece will work the hardest in your wardrobe, so if you’re going to spend a lot of money on something, make it this and choose one you really love.
A teddy coat is tactile and oversized, and you can layer up underneath so you know you’re going too keep the cold out. Jazz up your
wardrobe with heritage checks and tweeds. You can pair these with block colours such as black, red and mustard for a chic winter look that you know is going to weather well.
And at least one chic winter dress is needed. It’s feminine and will tell a different story depending on your choice of footwear.
With that in mind, here’s my winter wishlist. Enjoy…
