ACCORDING to the official blurb, this documentary looks at reallife examples ‘where people who’ve appealed for information committed the crimes themselves’. The cases featured include that of schoolgirl Tia Sharp, who was murdered by her grandmother’s boyfriend in 2012. That same year, Mick Philpott – who had fathered 17 offspring by different women – was found guilty of causing the deaths of six of his children by arson.

QUITE rightly, Johnny Cash is regarded as one of the finest recording artists in the history of pop. This 2005 biopic traces his rise to fame, de-scent into drug addiction and eventual re-covery. It stars Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and Reese Witherspoon, right with Phoenix, as Cash’s wife June Carter.
STORYVILLE Thursday, BBC4, 9pm
IT is just over 40 years since the Voyager programme was launched. Since then, the two unmanned space probes have ‘survived countless near misses’ and ‘continue to beam revolutionary information across unimaginable distances’. Apropos this special The Farthest: Voyager’s Interstellar Journey – the BBC website adds: ‘With less computing power than a modern hearing aid, they have unlocked the stunning secrets of our solar system.’

I KNOW, I know. There is simply no getting away from the fact that Graham Norton continues to hook the best A-list guests. Tonight it’s Elton John, Stephen Fry and Carey Mulligan. But even the second tier, Robbie Williams and Pink, count as fairly impressive catches.
