Alexandra wears fur despite her anti-cruelty message

-

POP singer Alexandra Burke has been called ‘beyond hypocritical’ by animal rights protesters after she wore a furtrimmed coat despite previously posing nude for an anti-fur campaign.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 29, wore an €870 Canada Goose coat – which has a coyote fur trim and duck down lining – as she arrived at the Tower Ballroom for the show’s Blackpool episode earlier this month, right. Yet the singer featured on a poster for a campaign run by animal rights group Peta in 2013, also pictured, which had the slogan: ‘I’d rather go naked than wear fur.’

Mark Glover, of charity Respect for Animals, said: ‘It’s just beyond hypocritical that she would take part in an anti-fur publicity exercise and then prop up a morally bankrupt industry by wearing this product. She is a role model and... she is sending a terrible message to her fans. Shame on her.’

Canada Goose coats are popular with A-listers including Daniel Craig, David Attenborough and Claire Foy. The firm insists it only uses ‘animals that have not been subjected to unfair practices’. But Peta claims coyotes are ‘caught in horrific, bone-crushing steel traps’ and often starve to death.

Peta said Ms Burke was ‘under the illusion the trim on her jacket was faux’ and that they contacted her to tell her the truth.

Ms Burke yesterday wrote on Twitter: ‘I’ve just learned the sad truth of how it was made. I am an animal lover, I have four dogs. I should have asked how it was manufactured and now I know, I will never wear it again. I am really sorry for any hurt I have caused.’
