Who’s the Oscar hopeful turned Aer Lingus air hostess?

AER Lingus didn’t get air rage after Saoirse Ronan and Saturday Night Live mocked the airline in a skit at the weekend – instead it got even... and the last laugh.

The sketch starred the actress – whose role in the upcoming Lady Bird has generated speculation that she will be nominated for an Oscar – as a member of Aer Lingus cabin crew and featured a number of Irish stereotypes, from passengers in Aran jumpers to an in-flight menu consisting only of potatoes.

Aer Lingus management showed they can take a joke by tweeting a response that was almost identical to one posted by Donald Trump when he was impersonated on the American comedy show last year.

The airline showed impeccable comic timing by sending its tweet exactly a year after the Trump tweet. It read: ‘Just tried watching Saturday Night Live – unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Ronan impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad.’ On December 3, 2016, Mr Trump sent a similar tweet following an SNL sketch by Alec Baldwin that poked fun at him.

SNL’s Aer Lingus skit fell flat with some Irish viewers who branded it ‘awful’. One fan tweeted: ‘Definitely expected more from SNL than that old schtick.’
