We’re being brainwashed by Star Wars

-

A SAFETY person working on location at the Star Wars film was quoted as saying: ‘Malin Head is cemented in the movie.’

What a line – cemented with capitalist jargon. Our natural heritage is being sold off to Hollywood bigshots trying to make a pile for themselves.

And they show the first screenings to people in Kerry and Donegal – big deal. I’d be more impressed if they’d let the whole country have the pre-screening.

Anyhow, it should be boycotted by all and I call for that here with this letter, as our heritage belongs to all. Heather Humphreys let them on the Skelligs and it was hard on the seabirds which have not recovered yet.

This Star Wars Film industry is brainwashing the young. The plot is to take their natural heritage away from them, and they will own only what’s left of it.

Sheer stupidity, predation and greed is the cornerstone of Hollywood, and the pigeons come home to roost – Weinstein, Spacey, etc.

A plague on all their houses, and they certainly got that over the last two weeks – fire and brimstone.

Life starts before birth

SCIENCE teaches us that human life begins at conception. In the normal course of events that is the start of the continuum of life, with all its vagaries, until we meet mortal death.

Of course, at many stages of our lives we will be dependent on others: when younger, our parents and guardians, and in later years probably medical and nursing staff. In pre-Christian times, life was regarded as disposable.

The Romans (in many other ways a highly developed civilisation), for example, saw nothing wrong with exposing/abandoning young, unwanted, usually female infants to the elements.

The advent of Christianity largely changed this way of thinking. In the 20th century, for example, civilised people abhorred practices such as those carried out by Dr Josef Mengele at Auschwitz. It defies belief that in Ireland in 2017 we are proposing to introduce measures, repealing the Eighth Amendment, which are in effect no different from those sanctioned by the Romans and by Dr Mengele.

Apart from the overwhelming scientific and ethical objections, it is also singularly inappropriate that this barbaric proposal is being announced at one of the most sacred times in the Christian calendar. This is one of the cold hard facts the pro-choice madness doesn’t want to know about. Well, they know now. They can now make an informed choice. What is their excuse? H. SWORDS, Co. Mayo.

Israeli atrocities

GARY Lineker has come under fire for tweeting that it was ‘sickening’ that Palestinian children were locked in a small cage by Israeli soldiers. He was accused of failing to provide context.

The context includes the fact that Israel illegally occupies the Palestinian West Bank and enforces a military courts system of justice which is unique in the world. Children as young as 12, accused of throwing stones, are taken into custody; interrogated with no family member or lawyer present and no audiovisual recording; imprisoned on the basis of confessions they have signed in Hebrew, a language they do not understand; and regularly put into solitary confinement.

There is no security justification for all this. It is a matter of great shame that our politicians and media are silent in the face of it.

Important gesture

I’M pleased to see that the Freedom of Dublin has been taken away from Aung San Suu Kyi. I know that this is only a small gesture, but the atrocities that are being carried out in Myanmar cannot be ignored. More people should follow the lead of the Dublin councillors.
