Let’s show this form every week, says Klopp
JURGEN KLOPP hailed Liverpool as the ‘complete package’ but called on his team to show the consistency they have lacked to nail down their place in the Premier League’s top four. Liverpool moved up to fourth with yesterday’s thumping 4-0 win at Bournemouth, but it followed back-to-back home goalless draws against Everton and West Bromwich Albion. Now Klopp wants his team to start showing their ‘world-class’ quality on a more regular basis — most notably seen in yesterday’s goals from Philippe Coutinho and Mo Salah. ‘It’s a really tough place to come,’ the Liverpool boss said last night. ‘If you’re not as concentrated or focused as we were, it’s impossible to get something here. ‘We were really spot-on — very good organisation, defending, approach, ideas . . . we worked hard. We controlled the game. Bournemouth had maybe one chance, we had a lot more. ‘So I’m really happy with the full package we showed today.’ But Klopp, who made four changes to the side that looked powerless against West Brom, also said: ‘I am not here to celebrate my squad. I like them but against West Brom they didn’t hit the target. I don’t change my mind in three minutes, we have to be consistently good because we are Liverpool.’ Coutinho was at his sparkling best here, darting through the Bournemouth defence for the first before playing a hand in creating goals for Dejan Lovren and Roberto Firmino. But it was left to team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to defend the Brazil playmaker in a post-match television interview when he was quizzed about his future. Barcelona are expected to move for Coutinho again next month after their summer pursuit failed and the 25-year-old was awkward in answering Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison — who also irked Klopp with his questioning after last week’s Merseyside derby. ‘I always say the same thing,’ Coutinho said. ‘I try to enjoy the moment, I like to play football and every time I go inside the pitch I try my best so . . . ’ Interjecting, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: ‘Phil’s a Liverpool player and he’s doing really well for us. He’s been the most professional person I’ve seen all season.’ Bournemouth were left wishing Coutinho had left for Spain in the summer and captain Simon Francis admitted they are fighting for their Premier League lives. ‘We’re in a relegation battle, we’ve got to acknowledge that sooner rather than later, and now we do,’ said Francis.
