Two win €500k in Euromillions as family bags Lotto bonanza

- By Naomi McElroy

CHRISTMAS came early for two Irish Lotto winners who won the €500,000 EuroMillions Plus prize last night.

The winning numbers were 4, 6, 22, 30 and 48 and the tickets were sold in Dublin and the mid-West. Meanwhile a lucky family made a last minute dash to Lotto HQ yesterday to collect their National Lottery €500,000 jackpot – just in time for Christmas.

The family syndicate, from Co. Tipperary, won the Lotto Plus 1 top prize with a Quick Pick ticket bought at McKevitt’s Costcutters Store on Friar Street in Thurles. They were over the moon with their bonanza.

The syndicate leader said: ‘What a way to celebrate Christmas.’ The family, who wish to remain anonymous, said they will not splash out on expensive gifts for one another, as it is already too close to the big day.

A family member said: ‘We already have our Christmas presents under the tree, so we’ll have to make do with our original gifts.’

A spokesman for the family said: ‘The win came completely out of the blue. I collect their syndicate payments every six months and I think most of them forgot they were involved.

‘It’s an amazing surprise just before Christmas and we’re going to enjoy the next couple of days before we decide what to do with the money.’

For one Lotto winner though, their luck is about to run out, as a €500,000 EuroMillions jackpot from Tuesday, September 26 remains unclaimed, and the time in which the winner can come forward is almost up.

The winning ticket was sold at Kilmoon Service Station in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, and the closing claim date is December 28.
