A MAN was yesterday charged with the murder of his elder brother in their family home.

Gerard Lynch, 29, with an address at Main Street, Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick, is accused of murdering his brother Willie Lynch at Pallaskenry on Saturday.

He appeared in Newcastle West District Court yesterday wearing slacks and a grey sweatshirt.

Judge Mark Larkin was told that Lynch replied to gardaí after being charged: ‘Sorry, I didn’t mean it.’

He kept his head bowed and did not speak throughout the proceedings.

A solicitor was assigned to represent the accused and he was remanded in custody to appear in Limerick District Court next Tuesday.

Solicitor Michael O’Donnelly asked that any required medical assessments are made while Lynch is in custody.

Willie Lynch, 35, was found stabbed to death in his home last weekend.

His body was discovered by a member of the public in the property at Main Street, Pallaskenry.

It’s understood Willie Lynch suffered a number of stab wounds to his torso.

The victim’s mother Helen, known locally as ‘Susie’, posted on Facebook on Sunday that her ‘heart is torn into pieces’.

The victim had been due to play in a charity inter-pub pool tournament in Pallaskenry on the evening he was found dead.

He was regarded as a ‘skilful’ sportsman in a variety of fields, including hurling, soccer, pool, and darts.

Meanwhile, a gofundme online page, set up on Sunday to raise funds to cover Mr Lynch’s funeral costs, has received more than €9,000 in donations, having surpassed its initial target amount of €2,500.
