- By Naomi McElroy news@dailymail.ie

KATHRYN Thomas last night revealed she had suffered two devastating miscarriages while trying for a baby before her current pregnancy.

The 39-year-old TV presenter, who is expecting her first child with partner Padraig McLoughlin in the first week of April, told Ryan Tubridy on last night’s Late Late Show how she spent nine months trying to conceive before losing her first child.

She said: ‘We were trying, nine months came and went, and you’re starting to lose faith, starting to go, “What are we doing?” and, “Have I left it too late?” We got pregnant and we were over the moon and had booked a holiday to Greece, my favourite place in the world, took off to the Greek islands. I was six weeks when I had my first miscarriage which happened out there.

‘I had to get a boat and then out to a hospital in Athens where nobody was speaking English, the most horrific experience.’

She said she ‘knew statistically one in four women have a miscarriage’. But, she said: ‘I think until it happens to you, and I’m somebody who would be quite positive... but when it happened, it completely floored me.’ The Operation Transformation presenter also revealed she lost her second baby not long after she celebrated getting pregnant again. She said: ‘It was another eight months before we got pregnant for the second time.

‘I didn’t enjoy it because you’re nervous; you’re anxious.

‘I got to six weeks and went for the six-weeks scan, got the all-clear and went for lunch, celebrated because I felt six weeks was where it all went wrong for me the last time.’

However, she added: ‘Then that night I miscarried again for the second time. That hit me like a tonne of bricks. It was very difficult to stay positive.’
