Awesome deals get the new year off to great start

- BY JIM MURTY

NEVER assume... it will make an ASS of U and ME. Or the newspaperman who wanted to get out early for the New Year’s Eve party and let an edition hit the streets (not this organ, you understand) with what he imagined New Year would be like. It was the same every year to be fair. Alas that year’s party would be cancelled because of an electrical fault.

The days of your diarist hitting the streets and standing in the freezing cold, listening to some washed-up band, exchanging hugs with sweaty, boozed-up partygoers, lining up in a long queue for the loo and trudging off home at a Godforsaken hour are over, It’s the telly and a ball of whiskey now.

That said I and the Indomitable Mrs M have agreed that we wouldn’t mind spending a Festive season in sunnier climes one year. Of course, she has the jump on me on that one having spent part of her early childhood in Australia.

I’ve always vowed to take her back. Whether it’s New Year or not, our tour providers are making Oz within our price range. Emirates is offering Brisbane from €958 economy class.

It’s no coincidence that many of us like to get away to the sun at this time of the year. It’s only natural that’s why they call the phenomenon the Flight of the Snowbirds.

Which brings us seamlessly to our old favourite, the Canaries.

TUI offers seven nights B&B from €449pps to Tenerife, January 26, fly from Dublin and staying at 3* Parque Vacacional Eden, Puerto De La Cruz. Or seven nights allinclusive at the 3* IFA Interclub Atlantic, San Augstin, Lanzarote from €479pps. Travel January 25.

Visit www.tuiholidays.ie or call 1850 45 35 45. And remember TUI dot the T’s and cross the I’s and put U in the middle.

That’s enough alphabetti spaghetti for now.

So, it’s TTF until next week.
