SINGER Jake Carter topped the leader board on the opening episode of RTÉ’s Dancing With The Stars last night, scoring 19 points for his salsa with professional partner Karen Byrne.

The 19-year-old pulled off a series of daring lifts to finish in pole position after dancing to Little Mix’s Reggaetón Lento.

But it was Marty Morrissey who swept the boards on social media, as people across the country tweeted their support to the GAA broadcaster.

to Blondie’s One Way or Another with Emily Barker, and admitted: ‘Even last night I was thinking, “What have I done? I’m going to destroy my legacy”.’ Despite his fears, he received a respectable 17 from the judges.

Rugby legend Tomás O’Leary also scored 17 for his foxtrot to John Legend’s All of Me with Giulia Dotta. He was praised by stand-in judge Darren Bennett who said it was ‘a great attempt at a very difficult dance’.

Comedian Bernard O’Shea, dancing with last year’s profes- sional winner, Valeria Milova, came last with 10 points for his tango to Video Killed the Radio Star. Jake Carter, on the other hand, blew the judges away with his salsawith partner Karen Byrne. Marty Morrissey closed the show with Joe Dolan’s GoodLooking Woman, scoring 12 for his performance with Ksenia Zsikhotska – and delighted his many fans with his catchphrase: ‘I’m Marty, and I like to party’.
