Good news is I’ve lost 7lbs... The bad? I’m sore all over!

LOSING weight is proving a waltz for Dancing With The Stars contestant Deirdre O’Kane – but keeping off the physio’s table isn’t!

The actress and comedian has lost half a stone in training for the hit show but is nursing injuries from rehearsing with partner John Edward Nolan.

‘I’m doing about five or six hours of dancing a day, everything is sore,’ Ms O’Kane confessed. ‘I’ve been to physio for the backs of my calves which are locked and in pain. There are cuts, bruises and blisters on my feet. It’s horrendous.’

Calling the experience ‘the most insane thing’ that she’s ever done, the Moone Boy star revealed that she initially said no to the show but that it was her daughter Holly who convinced her to do it at the eleventh hour.

The Drogheda woman will be performing the jive on this Sunday’s show and says that the ‘fear factor’ is huge.

‘It’s so much harder than it looks. One minute you’re delighted with yourself and you think you’re great and then you feel an idiot. It’s exhausting. If I didn’t have John, I wouldn’t be coping. He’s a hard worker.’

When asked about her biggest competition, she singles out the little brother of Nathan Carter as one to watch.

‘I’d probably pick Jake and Karen [Byrne]. I just think they’re a great match, I love Karen,’ she said. ‘She is a walking advertisement for Ballyfermot, she’s amazing. Jake, I think people will fall in love with him.’

And the Noble star is anxious about slipping into the notoriously skimpy dancing costumes.

‘I’m just trying desperately to get the bits I want covered, covered,’ she laughed. ‘It’s like any outfit. You know the parts of your body that are good and the parts that are bad.’

As for appearing on the reality contest, Ms O’Kane admits that she has given up trying to control every aspect of her career and is happy to take part. ‘This is not an ordinary reality show. I wouldn’t do Big Brother for any money on the planet,’ she said.

Dancing With The Stars is on RTÉ One tomorrow at 6.30pm.
