‘She’s here: we are so in love!’ Kim and Kanye welcome baby via surrogate

-

KIM Kardashian and Kanye West have welcomed their third child. Their surrogate gave birth to a ‘healthy’ baby girl at 12.47am on Monday weighing 7lb 6oz – though they have not yet revealed the name of their daughter.

Kim, 37, announced the news in a message on her website titled: ‘She’s here! We’re so in love.’ The reality TV star wrote: ‘Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl.

‘We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister. Love, Kim Kardashian West.’

The couple, pictured, were both in the delivery room with the surrogate, although rapper Kanye, 40, was behind a curtain until after the baby was born, according to TMZ.

Kim was the first person to hold the baby girl for skin-to-skin bonding, but the surrogate was allowed some contact with the child after the birth. Kim’s sisters Kourtney and Khloe and mother Kris were also at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA, where the family’s doctor, Paul Crane, oversaw the delivery.

The couple’s decision to go through a surrogate came after Kim suffered complications with her two pregnancies, experiencing early-onset preeclampsia with daughter North, four, and further troubles in labour with son Saint, two.

Kim previously admitted she has found the surrogacy very stressful.

She revealed: ‘Anyone that says it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong. It is so much harder to go through it this way, because you are not really in control.

‘And, you know, obviously you pick someone that you completely trust and that you have a good bond and relationship with, but... knowing that I was able to carry my first two babies and not my baby now, it’s hard for me. So, it’s definitely a harder experience than I anticipated just in the control area.’

She also admitted having difficulty explaining the process to her children, and chose not to invite her surrogate to her baby shower in November to avoid confusing them.

Kim said at the time: ‘I did not [invite the surrogate]. I did introduce her to my family earlier that day. Of course, I would’ve wanted her to be there and be a part of it, but I hadn’t really gone that far in explaining it to my kids yet. I have to figure that out first before we celebrate her, so I just want to celebrate the baby.’
