Mignolet considers his future

- By SIMON JONES

SIMON MIGNOLET admits he must consider his Liverpool future after being dropped by manager Jurgen Klopp for Sunday’s win over Manchester City.

Napoli are monitoring the Belgium goalkeeper’s situation. Mignolet has started 19 of 26 Premier League games but has not played since the 2-1 win at Burnley on January 1 as Klopp rotates his keepers.

German Loris Karius was preferred for the 4-3 win over City and Liverpool’s Champions League group games as well as the FA Cup victory over Everton.

Mignolet, 29, who cut a miserable figure on Liverpool’s bench on Sunday, said: ‘Because of the bizarre situation I asked for an explanation about (the manager’s) ongoing rotation after the Burnley game. I did not find it a healthy situation for a goalkeeper.

‘My place on the bench against City confirmed his words. I am not satisfied with (being dropped) but you have to respect a decision of the trainer.

‘I have to think about my future. I’ve been in such situations before and always come out stronger.’

Napoli are interested in Mignolet, who wants to push Thibaut Courtois for his place as Belgium’s World Cup No 1.

Klopp has Wales international Danny Ward as back-up to Mignolet and Karius and has monitored Roma’s Brazil goalkeeper Alisson as a possible summer target.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic, 21, is weighing up a loan move to a Championship side.
