‘ASK THE MANAGER IF I’M STAYING’

- OLIVER TODD at Stamford Bridge

MICHY BATSHUAYI insisted last night that he is happy at Chelsea but admitted his future is unclear, with Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund among the clubs chasing a loan deal. Batshuayi will only leave if a new striker joins Chelsea, and the club will continue talks today over a move for Roma’s Edin Dzeko. ‘I work everyday and today I am very happy here,’ Batshuayi said. ‘I don’t know about my future, it’s better you speak to Conte.’ The Chelsea manager said: ‘We don’t have three, four, five strikers. We have two: Alvaro Morata and Batshuayi. The club will make the best decision, to add players or continue with two strikers. I will be happy with both cases.’ Batshuayi has 10 goals this season, and an overall record of 19 in 18 starts, but Conte would like another option — with £25million Dzeko his first choice. Morata has missed Chelsea’s last three matches with a back injury but will resume training today. Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez was not too despondent about the loss. ‘When you play away against Chelsea, you know the difference between the top six and the other teams, it is really difficult,’ he said. ‘We tried and we put them under pressure. The difference in quality in some situations was key.’ Benitez is keen to add players before Wednesday’s transfer deadline. ‘I wanted to do my business by the 15th or the 20th but we still have time,’ he said. ‘I will continue working as hard as I’m working now, trying to improve the team.’
