Botox jabs may also help fight depression
BOTOX injections can work as a treatment for depression, according to psychiatrists at Hannover Medical School in Germany.
Their work builds on previous research that also suggested a link. In the new study, 42 people with severe depression were given injections of botulinum toxin into their foreheads.
Writing in the Journal of Psychiatric Practice, researchers said that after the injections, almost all the patients improved, ‘with depression scores dropping by 27%’.
The treatment is based on the idea that frowning itself can lower our moods.
Botulinum toxin, which works by inhibiting muscle activity, is commonly used to prevent frown lines.
