SAFER WAYS
THE healthiest ways to do household chores. This week: Get in the bath to scrub it
BENDING forward and twisting with force — as you do to scrub a dirty bath — puts the lower back under pressure and can increase the risk of pain and injury, says Katherine Roberts, a chartered physiotherapist.
‘It’s better to get into the bath to clean it if you can — or at least kneel alongside it rather than standing and bending forward.
‘Use a high-quality cleaning product, too, so you don’t need to scrub as hard.
‘If you have to stand, at least use a long-handled brush to minimise how far you need to bend.’
