Director General Páraic Duffy (right) has been a long-time critic, lending his support to the notion of any change made after a Thursday morning deadline counting as an actual substituti­on from the six allowed. With teams training though on the Thursday and Friday nights before weekend games, and with every chance of some of these players picking up a genuine knock or coming down with something to question their participat­ion, that’s largely impractica­l. Just apply the same rule to when counties officially announce their selection, which is usually on those nights in question. That would give far more credence to the listed teams.
