Anxious Bella opens up on how she used to ‘black out’ on the catwalk

-

SHE is one of the biggest names in fashion right now, having commanded the runway for Versace, Dior and Michael Kors. Despite her confident appearance on the catwalk, Bella Hadid, 21, opened up about her crippling social anxiety which left her physically shaking as she was catapulted into the limelight in 2014.

The IMG model, right, appeared on her mother Yolanda’s new Lifetime series Making a Model when she discussed how doing interviews and attending red carpet events would leave her ‘crying’.

Speaking to young hopeful Makenzie, who discussed her battle with social anxiety and dyslexia, Bella confessed that she was the opposite to her supermodel sister Gigi’s ‘bubbly’ nature.

‘In this business it’s hard to stay centered, stay inside yourself,’ she began. ‘You’re not alone, I promise you, I’m here to talk. Believe me I get it, I was totally there.

‘My sister is very bubbly and very out there and I was always very reserved.’

Adding: ‘I would literally start crying and shaking if I had to do interviews at red carpet events because it was really nerve-wrecking and it is scary.

‘I promise I went through that, it gets better once you start doing it every day, it’s my job I have to do it anyway.’

Later having a one-on-one with Makenzie, the catwalk star revealed that she would ‘black out’ while walking in runway shows as she battled her social anxiety.

She shared: ‘That’s exactly how I was for so long, I would literally black out.’

‘I would come out and be like “Oh well I guess it’s over” you know I had to go through all of that stuff so it’s not only you.’

Bella has previously been open about her health issues and spoke out about her struggle with Lyme disease.

The brunette was diagnosed with the ailment in 2012 and forced her to give up her dream of being an Olympic showjumper.

‘My teenage years were taken from me,’ she told the gathering for the Global Lyme Alliance Gala, according to People.

Showjumping ‘was my dream of my life and what I did every single day until I just stopped and realised I didn’t have the brain power to ride horses anymore, so that was the end of that,’ she explained.

Despite her illness, Bella like her older sister Gigi, has become one of the most sought-after models in the fashion world and is managing to pursue her high profile jet-setting career.
