SWITCH HEALTH INSURANCE AVERAGE SAVING €656

-

IT’S official — the Plan B revolution has begun. And if you’re wondering what that is, it’s the old Plan B option offered by health insurer VHI. Thousands of Irish people are still using it as they haven’t shopped around.

Donegal couple Bart and Rosemarie Whelan were in that statistic until they changed policy and ended up saving €2,745 as a couple by following the Mail’s advice.

Bart is on HealthPlus Extra, which is what the old Plan B Option is now called. He contacted the Irish Mail On Sunday Your Money column and we recommended they try the farbetter value plan Company Plan Plus 1.3. He saved €2,745 in the process for cover that is of similar quality and arguably better in some ways.

‘We saved €50 a week. We were thinking of going on a cruise,’ he said.

The couple are so delighted with the change, they’ve even recommended it to their friends.

‘We’re very pleased. In fact, we told two other people and they changed to the same plan,’ Bart said.

“Not enough people know that they can do it. I was thinking of changing for five years but worried about whether we were going to lose cover.’

A lot of VHI customers could benefit from doing the same as Bart and Rosemarie and switching from HealthPlus Extra to one of the corporate plans that have all the latest bells and whistles.

It’s important to note that the plans won’t be exactly the same so all details must be carefully discovered with their insurer or adviser.
