A NEW study has found that red wine could protect your teeth. The research, published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, suggests that chemicals in the drink can help fight tooth decay and gum disease.
The Spanish researchers looked at the effects of two polyphenols from red wine compared with grape seed and red wine extract supplements on bacteria that stick to teeth and gums, which leads to plaque, cavities and gum disease.
They found the wine polyphenols and extract lowered the bacteria’s ability to stick to the cells, but the polyphenols worked the best.
The findings, they said, could lead to new dental treatments. Cheers, we’ll drink to that!
