Do not attempt to move the bone or joint.

Immobilise the bone or joint as presented.

Ensure the wounded area is getting sufficient blood. To check, press an area near the injury: the skin should turn white initially then should quickly return to its normal colour.

Reassure the patient.

To relieve the pain you may apply ice to the dislocated joint. NEVER apply ice directly on to the skin. Wrap ice in cloth or bags, then apply to the injury.
