TUBRIDY PRAISE FOR ‘IMPRESSIVE’ MAIL
RYAN Tubridy, whose determined raising of the issue of internet child safety has helped put the worrying subject on to the national agenda, has again praised the Irish Daily Mail for its campaign demanding an age restriction on children owning smartphones.
Yesterday, while reading a report in the Mail on this morning’s Open Policy Debate on online safety, he described this paper’s pursuit as ‘dogged’ and ‘impressive’.
On his morning radio show last month, he backed our campaign for an age restriction on smartphones as he read court evidence following the conviction of paedophile Matthew Horan.
Challenging all of society to face up to the reality of the crisis affecting our children, he declared: ‘I’m going to go with the Irish Daily Mail front page this morning, on the basis that they have been campaigning on this subject for a few weeks now, probably for longer, but just in terms of the volume, and not hearing it.’
He has since gone on a social media detox, swapping his smartphone for an old Nokia phone.
