Customers left without money after BoI error

- Irish Daily Mail Reporter

BANK of Ireland has declined to say how many people have been affected by an error which left some customers short of funds yesterday.

Customers complained that money transferred into their accounts initially appeared before vanishing yesterday morning.

BoI said in a statement: ‘A process issue has resulted in some customers not seeing all transactions reflected in realtime in their accounts.

‘We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause some customers and we wish to sincerely apologise for this delay.

‘We are currently working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.’

One worried customer was left in shock when she found €6,000 had gone missing from her account.

She first feared her account had been hacked but when she contacted the bank it told her there was a ‘computer glitch’.

The customer told the Irish Daily Mail ‘Over €4,000 came into my account on Tuesday and I paid a few bills. But I woke up this morning, checked my account and found I was €2,000 overdrawn.

‘So essentially I was €6,000 down. The money that had been paid in had shown up on Tuesday but then it was like it had never landed.

‘It was credited at the time and showed up and everything was fine, but then in the morning it was as if it had never landed.

‘They told me there was a problem, a general problem, and they’d taken a lot of calls about it.’

Now she fears charges for going overdrawn and problems over bills she had paid from her funds not being honoured.

Another customer was stuck in Leeds with no funds and said: ‘Not ideal travelling with no money due to this issue.’
