THE vegan diet is no longer considered a hippy-dippy oddity and thanks to the increased availability of various nut milks and cheese alternatives, is not as formidable an undertaking as it once was. Surviving solely on vegetables, grains, berries and nuts has obvious health benefits – but how just hard is it to live without the staples of dairy, fish and meat? Returning for a third series of this engaging look at our the food industry and our relationship with grub, journalist and broadcaster Philip Boucher-Hayes (pictured) vows to go vegan for 28 days and see if he can quench his desire for a juicy steak. Having previously embraced the paleo diet, Boucher-Hayes is well up for the challenge. And he’ll have dietician Aveen Bannon to give him guidelines.
