Maguire can emulate true trailblazer Doyle

-

KEVIN DOYLE is regarded by his peers as the trailblazer who cleared a path from the League of Ireland to the Premier League and international team. He was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year at the end of the 2006/07 season in which he was the highest Irish scorer with 13 goals. Sean Maguire is the same age Doyle was, 23, when he was pipped by Ronaldo to that award and the Preston striker’s return from a fourmonth injury lay-off — three goals in two games off the bench — bodes well. Preston are just one point off the Championship playoffs and should Maguire maintain this streak they will be in with a shout of promotion. Like Doyle, Maguire left Cork City for a club in England’s second tier and broke down the door to the top flight. If Maguire keeps scoring he might just end up there one way or another.
