Kerry can be the team to trouble Dubs
SOMEONE’S going to have to make Dublin back up, even just by a couple of feet, as they parade through 2018 and that team might as well be Kerry tomorrow. On behalf of everyone watching on television, and as an energising boost for every other football team in the country, Eamon Fitzmaurice might just talk his boys into giving one very serious performance.
Meeting Kerry, if you like, is Becher’s Brook for this runaway Dublin team.
We need them to falter. If not that, we need to see some little flaw in the make-up of the greatest team in the modern game.
And, considering Kerry should have beaten Dublin twice last year (and actually finished the job once — in the League final) we’re not without hope.
Dublin tighten up in Kerry’s company. It’s in the county’s DNA. They just do. They afford Kerry teams a second look both out of an historical respect and also a healthy wariness for any group of men in green and gold running out onto Croke Park at any time.
I’m betting on Dublin being backed up and winning, all in one compelling afternoon.
