DEVELOPMENTS MIGHT BE SLOW

WE might be about to pocket a Grand Slam next week, but that’s no reason to snub our noses at being considered ‘developmental’ by the game’s bosses. On Monday last the executive committee of World Rugby announced the possibility of combining the vote on three future World Cups at once (with one being awarded to a country for ‘developmental reasons’ — us?) we should not even think for one second about getting all high and mighty. After suffering the embarrassment of not even getting a bridesmaid’s role as the 2023 tournament was awarded to France, we need to stay calm. And when Chairman Bill Beaumont (above) says, ‘It could be Ireland, the USA, Argentina, it could be anywhere on the planet,’ we need to just count to 10 and say nowt.
