A GAA MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

-

BRIAN CODY and Davy Fitzgerald might surprise us all tomorrow in Nowlan Park and give one another a great big hug on the sideline, maybe even before the game begins. And a second embrace at the end of it all? Why not? The two men really love one another. Everyone knows that. It is plain to see, and when they mention one another’s names there is always a sense of anticipation and excitement at work. In last week’s Irish Mail on Sunday, Fitzgerald did not admit to an infatuation with the Kilkenny team boss, but he did dance around him as he talked about Cody being the supreme being in the history of the game. Yeah, Davy’s ready to offer that hug, and we all know that Cody thinks the current Wexford guru is the best thing to happen to the game in his own 20 years on the sideline. Davy and Cody? The pair make us think of a degeneratively OCD’d Jack Nicholson trying to tell Helen Hunt in As Good As It Gets how she makes him feel. ‘I might be the only person on the earth that knows that you’re the greatest woman on this earth... I’m the only one who appreciates how amazing you are, in every single thing you do.’ And Nicholson continues... ‘And the fact that I get it, makes me feel good... about me!’ Davy and Cody make each other feel good... about themselves. A true hurling love story.
