Rob walks the plank as Jake’s Aladdin is just magic

- By Seán O’Driscoll

COMPETITIVE walking champion Rob Heffernan hotfooted it out of Dancing With The Stars last night after a tight dance-off with Conor McGregor’s sister, Erin.

The Olympic medallist said the show was the best race of his life.

His wife and children turned up for final dress rehearsals yesterday before the Corkman, 40, took to the floor in a multi-coloured coat to dance to Any Dream Will Do from Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

After he was eliminated, he hugged his dance partner, Emily Barker, who said he could not have been more dedicated to his dance routines.

All three judges voted for Erin over Rob but said that the enthusiasm of the Cork sports star had been one of the highlights of the show.

It was the quarter final last night, with Broadway musicals the theme.

It was Rob’s first time in an elimination dance-off and Erin’s third. She and dance partner, Ryan McShane, impressed the judges with their steamy version of Cell Block Tango from Chicago. Erin, a fitness model, now goes through to the semi-final with comedian Deirdre O’Kane, singer Jake Carter and camogie star Anna Geary.

Last night actress O’Kane looked very relieved to be the last dancer to be told she was through to the semifinal as her foxtrot almost unravelled when she bumped against a ballet bar prop.

The big star of the evening was the young gun Jake. The bare-chested heart-throb scored a perfect ten from all three judges for his lively performance to Friend Like Me from Aladdin.
