Battling Saints frustrate Dundalk

- By JAMES ROGERS

DUNDALK’s bid to build on their victory over champions Cork City last weekend ended in frustration at Richmond Park. They were held to their third scoreless draw in five matches by a stubborn St Patrick’s Athletic and while Stephen Kenny’s (below) side remain the only unbeaten team in the division, this result means they trail Cork and Friday night’s opponents Waterford by three points. The Louth men dominated throughout and could have made the breakthrough on 10 minutes when Sean Gannon’s sublime pass was taken down on his chest by Pat Hoban only for the striker to be denied by a superb stop from Barry Murphy. The visitors had two efforts cleared off the line in the build-up to half-time, Darragh Markey hooking a Daniel Cleary header away before Kevin Toner’s stunning diving header prevented Ronan Murray’s shot finding the top corner. Dundalk struggled to create openings in the second half as the hosts earned their point.
