A P MCCOY’S INSIDE TRACK ON CHELTENHAM’S TWO COURSES

-

‘THE Old Course, which is used Tuesday and Wednesday, is a lot tighter. You don’t have as much time turning into the home straight with its two fences. ‘I think you need a speedier, sharper horse on the Old Course. ‘On the New Course, used on Thursday and Friday, there are two fences in a longer home straight and only two hurdles in the final seven furlongs of races. ‘You have to be a lot more patient in the way you ride it and there is more emphasis on stamina.’ CONDITIONS were heavy, soft in places on both tracks yesterday, though today’s card is not in any doubt. ‘The Cross Country is not so slow, that’s soft, heavy in places,’ added clerk of the course Simon Claisse. ‘The outlook now is for a dry night and a dry day tomorrow.’
