SPURS DELAY KANE’S SCAN AS GYFLI FEARS INJURY KO
TOTTENHAM have delayed a scan on Harry Kane’s injured ankle in the hope of getting a clearer picture of any ligament damage when the swelling has subsided. Kane twisted his right ankle at Bournemouth on Sunday, the same ankle he injured twice last season. He is not expected to be fit for the FA Cup quarter-final at Swansea on Saturday or the England friendlies against Holland and Italy. Spurs forward Son Heungmin promised he and Fernando Llorente are ready to step up in Kane’s absence. ‘We have many options,’ said Son. ‘Of course, Harry is a very important part of the team but if he is injured, other players have to be ready. I can play striker, Fernando can play striker.’ Meanwhile, Gylfi Sigurdsson’s hopes of playing for Iceland at the World Cup are in the balance after the Everton midfielder suffered knee ligament damage. Sigurdsson hurt his right knee in the 2-0 win over Brighton at Goodison Park on Saturday, although he still played 90 minutes. He had some discomfort on and saw a specialist yesterday to determine the seriousness of the injury. Sigurdsson told Sportsmail recently how much going to Russia with his country meant, saying: ‘It’s something as a kid you dream about but, at the back of your mind, you remember you come from Iceland and you think it will never happen.’ He faces an anxious wait until the specialist gives his verdict. If Sigurdsson has damaged his medial ligaments, he would have just enough time to get back. However, if the problem is an anterior cruciate ligament, he will be out for most of the year.
