If Samcro’s raw ability is matched by the steely, grizzled origins of his name, the Gordon Elliott-trained six-year-old will be formidable in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. Samcro — who cost owner Michael O’Leary £335,000 when bought at a sale at the 2016 Grand National meeting — gets his name from the gritty TV drama Sons of Anarchy, which followed the less than savoury actions of a violent Hells Angels-style California motorcycle club.
