CARR IS ELECTED TO END DISPUTE

- By MICHEAL CLIFFORD

A BITTER dispute in London GAA was resolved after a heated county board meeting on Monday night when the outgoing Seamus Carr was reappointed Central Council delegate. An administrative cock-up by the London GAA leadership forced Croke Park to intervene after the vote between Carr and the board’s outgoing vice-chairman Tony O’Halloran finished in a dead heat at last December’s county convention. Board chairman John Lacey used his casting vote at convention to declare O’Halloran elected, but Croke Park subsequently ruled that a county chairman did not have the right to a ‘casting vote’ in a tied election. The stand-off between London and Croke Park has been in place for several weeks with the latter insisting the issue could only be resolved by ‘a draw’ of names. London chairman Lacey relented at this week’s meeting and Donegal native Carr emerged as the winner when the draw was completed.
