CASEY IS UNFAZED BY EVENT SECURITY

- By PHIL CASEY

PAUL CASEY has played down any security concerns ahead of this week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, where four bombs have killed two people in recent weeks. United States authorities are also investigating whether a parcel bomb that exploded at a FedEx depot yesterday is connected to a suspected serial bomber. The incident occurred in Schertz, 104km south of the city of Austin. ‘I have no worries,’ said Casey. ‘There’s trouble around the world. I’ve never been one for stressing about things. ‘Having grown up in London where security’s always been a concern, or in the front of your mind, I got more worried about people crashing into me, too busy texting on their phones on the way to the golf course than to worry about something like that.’ Casey (above) won all three of his group matches at Austin Country Club last year before losing to Japan’s Hideto Tanihara — who made the semi-finals — in the last 16. The 40-year-old won his first PGA Tour title since the 2009 Houston Open in the Valspar Championship earlier this month. A statement from the PGA Tour, reported by the Golf Channel, read: ‘While we do not comment specifically on security measures, the safety and security of our players and fans is, and always will be, our top priority. ‘Our security advisers at the Tour are working in close collaboration with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to monitor, review and evaluate the situation and implement procedures as needed. ‘We encourage all spectators to review the PGA Tour’s bag policy and prohibited items list, available at www.dellmatchplay. com, prior to arriving at the tournament.’
