Yours for €649k: TV star’s home

- By Mollie Cahillane news@dailymail.ie

TV presenter and architect Dermot Bannon has put his family home on the market at a price tag of €649,000.

Boasting an open-plan kitchen and dining room, and retaining original features, the 1925-built house is said to be in ‘impeccable’ condition.

The architect, star of RTÉ’s hit home-transformation show Room To Improve, bought the house in the Dublin suburb of Drumcondra 12 years ago.

It is understood Bannon and his family plan to move to a larger home nearby.

TV’S most famous architect is seeking a little Room To Improve in his own family’s living situation.

RTÉ star Dermot Bannon has put his home of 12 years up for sale.

The terraced family home in the north Dublin suburb of Drumcondra is on the market with auctioneer DNG for €649,000.

Curiously, the advertisement fails to mention that the home currently belongs to the man who has shaped Irish architectural tastes by way of the hit RTÉ show Room To Improve.

However, the associated publicity does describe the house as being in ‘impeccable condition’.

The Malahide native and his wife Louise, who have three young children, are understood to have bought a larger home nearby.

The house, on Drumcondra’s Ban- try Road, retains original 1920s features including high ceilings, original solid wood flooring and cast iron fireplaces. There is an elevated front garden entrance and a utility area and guest bathroom on the ground level.

The house, which was built in 1925, was extended by Bannon in 2005.

The architect has claimed in media interviews not to have done much work on the property in recent years. However, it does boast a number of architectural flourishes, including an open-plan kitchen and dining area.

In an interview with the Irish Mail on Sunday last year, Bannon joked that he has been guilty of neglecting the family home.

‘Twelve years ago was when I did my own house,’ he said.

‘There’s a bit of “the cobbler’s shoes are always the worst”. There are things that need doing to our house and I don’t do any of it.’
