That stings! Protective mum Trudie stonewalls Lorraine
TRUDIE Styler shut down Lorraine Kelly’s questions about her daughter Eliot, as she promoted her new transgender comedy Freak Show.
Appearing on the ITV show to talk about her directorial debut, the 64-year-old awkwardly cut off discussion about her 27-year-old – who does not believe in gender labels – by stating she simply ‘identifies as a musician’.
Ending the interview on a sweet note however, Trudie’s husband Sting later surprised her on set, with a large bouquet of flowers in hand. Trudie, pictured left with husband Sting, had been discussing her new film Freak Show, which tells the story of a teenage drag queen, when her second daughter Eliot came up in conversation.
Eliot, who is a solo artist and the frontwoman of band I Blame Coco, came out as gay in 2015, and revealed she ‘doesn’t believe in any specifications’ to gender or identity.
However when Lorraine asked if the project was partly inspired by Eliot, who she deemed ‘fluid’, Trudie awkwardly shut down the question by stating: ‘She identifies as a musician, and the conversation should end there.’
Going on to praise her daughter’s success, she added: ‘She’s a musician, and it’s very empowering. She’s the musical consultant on Freak Show and two of her songs are in the film.
‘I’m very proud of her work, and love her to bits as my daughter.’
Yet, smoothing any awkwardness aside, Lorraine went on to surprise Trudie by bringing her husband Sting on to the set.
Trudie and Sting have three children apart from Eliot – daughter Bridget, 34, and sons Jake, 33, and Giacomo, 23.
