CHOC IT TO ME!
LIR
MR EASTER Bunny sure has his work cut out these days — the sheer number of eggs on our shelves is dizzying. Of course, there’s no eggsact science to choosing the perfect one but chocaholics Salma Brimah, 13, Deegan Brimah, 6, and Isabel Guy, 8, have lots of experience. We turned the kitchen into a makeshift chocolate factory and tasted all the big brand Easter eggs we could get our greedy hands on. And the verdicts are in! GALAXY GOLDEN EGGS
First impressions: The box is very colourful and bright but it’s big and a bit overpackaged.
Taste: The chocolate is nice and the crunchy bits inside are really good. The golden eggs look very artificial not very appetising and they taste like nothing. Verdict: 7/10
ISABEL
First impressions: The golden bit looks like the sun and the chocolate looks wavy and nice. I would pick up this one.
Taste: It tastes like Crunchie bars and a little bit like Dairy Milk but a little bit sour. I don’t like the little eggs. Verdict: 9/10 (but 2/10 for the mini eggs)
DEEGAN
First impressions: The gold wrapper looks cool, like a football. I love the box.
Taste: I really like the crunchy bits. It’s different to other eggs. I like the smaller eggs because the crunchy bits are bigger inside and very good. Verdict: 10/10
MICHELLE
First impressions: A lot of box here but the balls look lush & I adore Galaxy bars.
Taste: This chocolate is divine. The crunchy pieces inside really jazz it up. Great for dunking in a hot cuppa. Verdict: 9/10
LIDL BELGIAN MILK CHOCOLATE EGG
ISABEL First impressions: This looks quite disgusting with jellies inside — it looks all squishy. It makes me sad.
Taste: This isn’t good. It’s disgusting. I don’t like jellies and marshmallows inside chocolate and I don’t like the nuts. This is definitely not for me! Verdict: 0/10
DEEGAN
First impressions: The box looks really nice and I like the colours but the egg looks horrible with jellies inside.
Taste: This is really disgusting. The marshmallows are not nice. It’s not for me either. Verdict: 0/10
SALMA
First impressions: I like the typical Easter theme with butterflies and chicks and flowers but the egg doesn’t look good with the splash of white chocolate and jellies inside.
Taste: It has a weird mint jelly flavour with chocolate around it, it’s a very weird combination. It’s disgusting. The chocolate by itself is okay but the sweets ruin it. I need to spit it out. Verdict: 3/10 MICHELLE First impressions: The box is pretty and I love the Easter bunny and the waving animals. I like the idea of chocolate fudge marshmallows and jellies inside Belgian chocolate.
Taste: I really like this egg. It’s surprising to find sweets inside chocolate but I really like it and the chocolate is lovely and creamy. Verdict: 8/10
MARS EGG
ISABEL First impressions: I like the Mars sign on the golden wrapper on the front of the box — it looks like it’s for girls and boys.
Taste: It’s delicious, like normal chocolate. It reminds me of the Galaxy without the crunch and it’s a big size. Verdict: 8/10
DEEGAN
First impressions: I don’t like Mars bars but I might like the egg as black and red are my favourite colours.
Taste: This tastes just like the Galaxy except without the crunchy bits and there is little bumpy bits like balls at the side. Verdict: 10/10
SALMA
First impressions: I like the box, the colours and how the golden egg pops out of the chocolate egg.
Taste: It tastes like plain chocolate, nothing special. I love Mars bars but there’s nothing ‘Marsy’ about this egg Verdict: 7/10
MICHELLE
First impressions: I’m not too keen on this box because you can’t really see the size of the egg.
Taste: It opens really nicely and the egg is really thick but the chocolate is disappointing. There’s not much of a flavour and it doesn’t really taste like a Mars bar. Verdict: 6/10
GREEN & BLACK’S ORGANIC
SALMA
First impressions: I like the simple wrapping and the lovely writing but opening it was a huge disappointment as it was small inside.
Taste: It says it’s a milk chocolate egg but it taste more like dark chocolate. It’s really thick and rich as well but there’s not a much to it as the egg is small. Verdict: 4/10
ISABEL
First impressions: I like the birds and leaves on it, and the writing is pretty.
Taste: I don’t like dark chocolate and this is very thick too so I really don’t like it. Verdict: 2/10
DEEGAN
First impressions: I like the box and the birdies and the shape on the front that looks like a boy smiling but I don’t like the writing and wish it was just green with no writing.
Taste: This has a lovely taste. It reminds me of the Mars bar but it’s dark chocolate and I like that as my dad is lactose-intolerant and he eats dark chocolate so I would buy it for him. Verdict: 10/10
MICHELLE
First impressions: The box is very elegant, with a lovely script. It looks like a sophisticated grownup egg but it’s swallowed up by packaging.
Taste: The chocolate is so thick we almost need a hammer to break it. It’s more dark chocolate than milky but it’s delicious and would be super with a glass of red wine. Definitely one for the adults. Verdict: 9/10
THORNTONS CHOCOLATE FUDGE BROWNIE EGG
ISABEL
First impressions: I love the see-through window and the flowers on the front. It’s like a cylinder and looks lumpy so maybe there’s nuts inside.

SALMA
First impressions: The front of the egg looks weird, like it’s been flattened down and is made of plastic.
Taste: It tastes very good and I really like the chocolate lumps. It’s not too thick or too thin. I really don’t like the sweets inside — the top is hard and chewy and a big disappointment. Verdict: 6/10
MICHELLE
First impressions: I love the lovely bronze swirly flowers and the orange, bronze, pink and brown colours. I can see inside and am happy it looks like a large egg
Taste: I love the crunchy bits mixed in with the white chocolate. It’s very sweet but absolutely delicious. I tried a raspberry sweet but it was very sickly sweet and not very good. Verdict: 8/10
SALMA First impressions: This box is very beautiful and I like that you can see the egg from all angles. It looks like it’s hand decorated with great detail applying the pistachio and cranberry bits.
Taste: It’s extremely hard to crack open and smells really rich, like a little bit of this will be loads. I’m right — it’s very strong, they should dilute the taste a bit. It’s very sour. I can’t eat much of this as it’s overpowering and the pistachio and cranberry is very chewy. Verdict: 4/10
DEEGAN
First impressions: This egg looks disgusting to me because of all the cranberry and nuts on the top and it looks like there’s some weird red vegetables inside it. I only like vegetables sometimes but not in chocolate.

berries as they’re probably even more disgusting. Verdict: 0/10
ISABEL
First impressions: This egg looks so pretty inside the box and it looks delicious.

SALMA
First impressions: I know I’m going to love this as Cadbury’s is my favourite. The packaging is so nice with a lovely ribbon on the top.

SALMA First impressions: This and looks lovely very — posh I wouldn’t this came have from a Aldi clue except branding for the on tiny the back.

ISABEL
