Bono really does walk on water... here’s the proof!

IT’S always a beautiful day in Huntington Beach, California’s Surf City but for Bono nothing beats those late September days. That’s when he rides every breaking wave fighting it out against the best surfers in the world. Who knew? And what’s more this year Bono is going for three in a row.

Bono, a Brazilian labrador, is the BFF of Ivan Moreira and as well as his Surf City successes he is the proud owner of a world record for the largest wave towed in by a dog in tandem with surfing legend Garrett McNamara in Hawaii.

Bono, as you would expect, has his own fan club and has 54,000 Instagram followers. That kind of adulation might give some surfurs (as they call them) a big head.

But not our Bono... the pupparazzi might chase him but he doesn’t hide behind the shades!

The 9th Annual Surf City Surf Dog competitio­n is just one reason to visit Huntington Beach.

It is just 45 minutes to an hour south of Los Angeles which is, of course served by Aer Lingus direct flights to LAX, €208.99 each way as part of a return trip. Hire a car or book an Uber (c. $50) and zip down the Pacific Highway to Surf City and kick off your shoes. The chilled delegates from Huntington Beach visited Dublin this week where they told us about their Flip-Flop Fridays where they wear flip-flops to work. Huntington Beach has had another claim to fame which caught our eye, a real-life Irish singer, Nadine Coyle opened up an Irish-themed bar there. Pop in… girls, boys and, we dare say, dogs allowed. And if she’s back over, you may even catch Nadine and Bono singing
