Hounded by a long winter... but the sun is finally on its way!

- By Ronan Smyth

JUST like this playful pooch, we’ll soon be having a ball – as the long, long winter is finally coming to an end.

Weather conditions are set to improve significantly over the next week, with temperatures soaring as high as 20C.

Conditions will begin to improve by Wednesday, with temperatures in the high teens, according to a Met Éireann forecaster. It will be warm and humid with hazy sunshine across most of the country. The forecaster said the good weather will extend into the two following days, with temperatures set to peak on Thursday, when it could hit 20C.

Towards next weekend, the weather will remain fairly dry. The forecaster said there may be some rain and showers, but it will not be significant.

As for today, cloudy conditions at the outset will start to break up by early morning, clearing the way for sunshine. Temperatures are expected to be between 11C and 14C, though there will be some showers in parts of the country. Overnight, however, it will be cloudy and misty, with rain expected in some areas, carrying over into tomorrow.

The weather tomorrow is expected to be mixed, with some showers, and temperatures between 10C and 14C. Similar conditions will continue into Monday and Tuesday, with rain in the west.

AT long last, some good news from Met Éireann. From the middle of next week, temperatures are set to soar to an astonishing – wait for it – 20 degrees!

Hardly the Côte d’Azur, but far better than anything we have been used to in recent months. Perhaps our long winter of discontent is finally coming to an end. If so, who can blame us for cheering?
