Are you a stroke survivor? Join with others to get tips and help

-

WHETHER you’ve had a stroke, or you’re the carer or family of someone who has had one, the worries and fears of experiencing a stroke can seem overwhelming, even if you are very much on the road to recovery.

But the Irish Heart Foundation wants you to know that you are not alone. The charity is holding its sixth annual National Stroke Survivors’ Day on Tuesday, April 24 in Croke Park from 10.30am — 4pm where stroke survivors and their families from all over Ireland will be gathering together to help each other.

Niamh Malone, stroke survivor and founder of Brainy App, will chair the event which kicks off of at 10.30am and over 400 survivors are expected to attend the event.

Throughout the morning, medical and healthcare experts from Beaumont Hospital, Trinity College Dublin, St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny and Rehab Neurological Services will be on hand to answer any questions that stroke survivors or their families have about the condition with the aim of helping those who have had a stroke get practical help in the aftermath and look towards rebuilding their lives.

In the afternoon there will be a series of workshops covering a wide range of topics, such as aphasia, social welfare, fatigue management, relationships after stroke, mindfulness, music therapy, secondary prevention and stress management.

Meeting others in a similar situation can help so there will be plenty of time during the day to hear stories and share experiences. To reserve places at this event, please email Laura Quinn on lquinn@irishheart.ie or call 01 6685001.
