Enjoy it while it lasts!

- By Jane Fallon Griffin

SUNBATHERS who have enjoyed basking in the sunshine over the last few days should soak up the remaining rays today – because it looks like it will be business as usual after that.

Our spirits are set to be thoroughly dampened from tomorrow into the following days, as temperatures are forecast to drop again and the week ahead is looking rather bleak.

Today is one for the sun cream as temperatures will soar to a balmy 19C, with sunshine across most of the country.

The wonderful weather, which came on the back of Met Éireann launching its new seven-day forecast service, was warmly welcomed by everyone waiting impatiently for spring to finally arrive.

The national meteorological service is predicting a dry and sunny day today, with inland areas warmer than counties along the Atlantic coast, where it will still be sunny and bright. However, temperatures are set to cool from tomorrow onwards – and there will be a return of the dreaded scattered showers next week, which will turn to heavier rain and drizzle on Tuesday.

Although we have been enjoying temperatures of up to 20C in the last few days, the highest they will climb to tomorrow is 14C, before dropping further over the rest of the week.

From tomorrow on, the clear blue skies are set to turn cloudy, and we will be starting next week on a dreary note. However, while we might be enjoying the warm weather in Ireland, it’s becoming something of an endurance test in Britain, where the hottest April temperatures in almost seven decades were recorded.

London Marathon runners were told to reconsider plans to wear heavy fancy dress outfits for tomorrows’s race, with temperatures of 23C expected.
